CECI N’EST PAS DU VERRE
On the initiative of and in collaboration with the GlazenHuis in Lommel, the National Glass Museum Leerdam presents an exhibition entitled 'Beste Buren | Ceci n'est pas du verre'. As part of the 'Beste Buren 2015' (The Best of Neighbours 2015) event, which celebrates Flemish-Dutch creativity and cultural cooperation, the works of five renowned artists (Esther Jiskoot, Jehoshua Rozenman, Maria Roosen, Hans Hovy and Caroline Prisse) are entering into battle with the compelling architecture of the GlazenHuis. Each of the artists comes from a different part of the world of sculpture and came into contact with glass at some point during their career. They all incorporate glass in their work but do not lay the emphasis on its intrinsic seductive properties, such as transparency, sheen and viscosity. Instead, the artists primarily take advantage of the material's expressive qualities.
ABOUT THE GLAZENHUIS
With the GlazenHuis the city of Lommel (Belgium) wishes to create a platform for glass as the fundament for art. The GlazenHuis is not only an architectural beacon and a glass museum, but acts also as an informative, educational, production and sales centre. This Flemish Centre for Contemporary Glass Art combines various functions and it approaches glass from all possible perspectives: artistic, functional and conceptual, craftsmanly and industrial, contemporary and historical.
