SCULPTURAL GLASS AND MIXED MEDIA

GO CRAZY DURING THE 6-DAY WORKSHOP
With the Mexican brothers Jamex and Einar De La Torre from the 2nd until the 7th of April 2013

This class will focus on translating artistic ideas to glass by using bit work and glass sculpting. Drawing will be used as a means to exchange ideas and we will encourage teamwork and collaboration. In the morning we will start with demonstrations followed by working student conferences either in the hotshop or in the studio. Open discussions will take place after studio time where we can exchange group ideas and assembly techniques. We will also discuss the next steps for the work or the artist’s intention here.

The brothers Einar and Jamex de la Torre were born in Guadelajara (MX); they moved to California in 1972 and are currently living and working in both Ensenada (MX) and San Diego (California).

Jamex started lamp-working glass in 1977. He attended California State University at Long Beach under scholarship and received a Bachelor in Fine Arts in sculpture in 1983. Einar started to work with glass in 1980 and also attended California State University at Long Beach.

They ran a flame-worked glass figure business in the 80s. In the 90s they began working exclusively as studio artists. They have exhibited their work internationally. You can find their work in the collections of the Arizona State University Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, the Kanazu Museum in Kanazu (JP), the USC Fisher Museum of Art in Los Angeles, the Tucson Museum of Art and the Mexican Fine Art Center Museum in Chicago. They also have work in the private collections of e.g. Cheech Marin, Elton John, Terry McMilan, Sandra Cisneros and Quincy Troupe.
